Jarrolds celebrates 200 years in the heart of Norfolk
Though Jarrolds is 253, this year’s marks an historic milestone of our iconic department store being in the heart of Norfolk for 200 years. Though a lady should never admit her age, we are proud of our heritage and also our future with exciting plans. As custodians of this Norfolk landmark, we take pride in curating the best products locally and around the world, but also experiences which stay with you through collective memories and stories.
Jarrolds has played a part in the lives of generations of Norfolk families. The roots of the Jarrold business were in shopkeeping, it then developed to become a leading printer and publisher during the 19th and 20th centuries. John Jarrold II set up as a bookseller, publisher and printer at 3 Cockey Lane (as London Street was then called), opposite the present premises. In 1840 they moved to part of the current site at London Street and the story has continued to 2023 with the store adapting and evolving to its present incarnation.
